Back to Beginnings… | Source Yoga

I completed my first yoga teacher training in September, 2000, at Ghost Rach, New Mexico. This was an intensive training, a few weeks in the desert, immersed in yoga and meditation. One of our last mornings, after a 5 am meditation, I stood outside, under a spectacular sky of stars, listening to a pack of coyotes howling in the early morning, and feeling more spacious than I had ever felt in my life. I had never felt so in-tune with who I really am, never felt so clearly that I knew who I was and the direction of my path. This was a transformative experience which changed my life forever.

I am mentoring a young yoga teacher who completed her yoga training not quite a year ago. I recently noticed that talking with her brings me back to the feeling of being a brand new teacher. I observe in her a sense of wonder, a passion for the transformative power of yoga, and an inspiration for making a difference for people through teaching. I have to say, 16 years after my first yoga training, those things are still present for me. I still see the difference yoga makes in the lives of those I teach, and I still get moved by it.

I now find myself excited, inspired, and a little nervous to embark on a new journey – that of training yoga teachers. Highly trained and skilled teacher Rebecca Ray and I are teaming up to bring a new offering to our Source Yoga Community – a 200 Hour Mindfulness Based Yoga Teacher Training, beginning in January, 2017. We are excited to be bringing a strong focus on alignment-based asana, as well as Mindfulness Based practices to take on and off the mat.

This training is for students who are interested in teaching yoga, or in simply deepening their experience with yoga and mindfulness practice over a 10-month period of time. I have talked with some of you who are interested in bringing yoga to your workplace, or your communities, and I have also talked with several students who are interested in participating in the training, but are not interested in teaching, which is just fine. Although, be warned – Rebecca tells me when she did her first Yoga Teacher Training, she had no interest in teaching – and look at her now. You never know…there may be a yoga teacher in you that you didn’t know was there!

We are thrilled to be officially open for registration. Please read more about our program here, and join us for one of our information sessions to learn more about our program.
