Who is Source Yoga in the Greater Community?

I have been really enjoying teaching in recent weeks. It can be a balancing act wearing both hats of teacher and studio owner, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Teaching keeps me grounded in what I want to be both learning for myself and contributing in the world. It keeps me connected to my own practice, and my time face to face with students reminds me why Source Yoga exists and my passion for making a difference. Owning Source Yoga is a part of my larger vision of making a difference in the world and in my community, beyond what I can do myself as just one teacher.

It is valuable for me to revisit and re-examine my purpose in both teaching and running Source Yoga, and looking at who is Source Yoga in the greater community? More and more, you choices for your yoga – studios, gyms, online, in books, magazines, at home, even on your phone. These are all valid places and ways to discover and deepen your experience of yoga. But what I am constantly asking myself is…what has you call Source your yoga home? What is it that Source Yoga provides that has you coming back for your weekly practice? You will have to answer that for yourself, but here is some insight into why Source Yoga is not just my career, but the heart of my spiritual path and my purpose as well.

One of my passions and personal missions, is to disrupt the culture and virtue of “busy,” which values doing over being. For me, Source Yoga exists to provide a space for you to simply be. Culturally, we work hard, play hard, and often have difficulty just being with ourselves. My wish is that here, you can come to your practice as you are. You can come here and be with the difficult, the painful, the places where you struggle, as well as the places of contentment, of joy, of ease. I desire to provide a space where you can come home to yourself, as you are. In the body that you have today, and with your mind and heart as they are today.

If given this space, to let ourselves be, without striving to get somewhere, or change something about ourselves, we begin to find that we can access a deeper well of wisdom, compassion, patience, and equanimity in ourselves. Not so that we are better yogis or better meditators, but so that we can face the challenges of life with more ease and compassion for ourselves and those around us.

All of my teaching, and all of our offerings here at Source, come from that commitment. I hire teachers that embody that, I create offerings to help you deepen your experience of that. I do hope you consider Source Yoga your yoga home, and would love to hear from YOU why that is.

May you be well,

Erin
