Source Yoga Teacher Highlight – Tiffany Speir

Tiffany Speir has been a long time Source teacher –  her first class teaching with us was in 2011. But really, she has been moving her whole life, starting ballet at age 4, teaching dance and group exercise for 20 years, and falling in love with yoga in 2004.  Tiffany teaches sustainable vinyasa yoga; she emphasizes biomechanical awareness during physical practice in order to prevent injury while also supporting mental and emotional peace. By holding and moving between poses with strength and ease, students can enjoy the benefits of increased self-awareness and also move their mental focus to the here and now.  She gears classes for mixed levels and offers options to each practice so students are able to fully enjoy each session and bring yoga to their body each day.

Source Yoga University Place – Saturdays, 9-10:15am (Active Flow), Sundays 10:30-11:45am (Active Flow), Mondays, 6-7:15pm (Level 1-2)

What non-yoga book are you reading/did you recently read? 

Dark Invasion – about pre-WWI America

What yoga book do you recommend?  

Your Body Speaks Your Mind. The body shows us what we are unconsciously ignoring, denying, or repressing.  The book provides a practical way to learn the language of your body so you can understand how your thoughts and feelings directly affect your physical health.

What’s your favorite yoga practice/pose and why? 

Warrior II – It is a pose in which it is possible to explore the balance between strength and ease, to start to really tune into your own body, or alternatively to let the physical go and focus on your sankalpa (intention/resolution/focus) for that practice

What’s one secret that helps you stay healthy? 

Balance in all things.  Rather than pushing to an extreme in work, play, relationships, the external, the internal, the physical, or the mental and emotional, finding the right balance for yourself is essential for your well being.

What’s something that currently inspires you?

Being fortunate enough to see the heroism in my family and friends.  Sometimes living our daily lives requires (or gives us the opportunity for) being a hero regardless of any recognition or fame.

What’s your favorite place to travel? 

Hood River, Oregon!  Beautiful nature all around, wonderful people, all kinds of active or passive activities to enjoy all year long.

Anything you want to share with our community? 

I am grateful for the chance to teach at Source, and I am even more grateful for the friends I have found here.  🙂

Can you share a favorite recipe? 

Simple fruit salad – mandarin oranges, sliced bananas, chopped apples, any other fruit you like, and strawberry yogurt.  Mix together and enjoy!
