Practicing yoga since:
This is an interesting question. In some ways I have been practicing aspects of yoga for as long as I can remember. However my physical practice began in 2001 when I took my very first yoga class. I practiced on and off for the next several years as a supplement to my fitness regime. It wasn’t until 2008, however, when I found Source Yoga, that I began a regular, deeper practice.
Teaching yoga since:
2015
Where/when do you teach?
Source Yoga North Tacoma, Tuesday evenings at 7PM
Hobbies/interests:
My first love was singing! But, I enjoy all types of music and creative expression. I love getting lost in time playing with music and art alone or with my children. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen creating vegan meals and treats. Sometimes as a hobby, sometimes as a chore. I am happiest by the water.
What non-yoga book are you reading/did you recently read?
Currently on my nightstand: The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom and Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne.
What yoga book do you recommend?
I HIGHLY recommend Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom. Coincidently, it was introduced to me as part of a Source Yoga Mindfulness series.
What’s your favorite yoga practice/pose and why?
My favorite type of practice is a strong, quick Vinyasa flow. The internal heat dissolves my mind chatter and the rhythm of movement of breath brings me back to my musical roots.
What’s one secret that helps you stay healthy?
I drink green protein smoothies (nearly) everyday.
What’s something that currently inspires you?
My sister, a cancer survivor who is recovering from surgery with strength and grace.
What’s your favorite place to travel?
Oahu!!
Anything you want to share with our community?
I am honored to be a part of this community. Teachers, longtime students, and those just now beginning to enter the yoga world. We are all integral to this lovely community.
Can you share a favorite recipe?
This is my favorite, EASY, lunch time salad:
Combine 4oz. mixed greens, 1 chopped tomato, 2 sliced scallions, and 1 cubed avocado in a bowl. Mix in 4 tablespoons of rice or apple cider vinegar with sea salt and pepper. So simple, fresh and deliscious.
