Deep Dive: Exploring the Foundation of Yoga with Jeni Martinez

6 Sundays: February 22-March 29, 2026, 3-4:15pm

The Deep Dive Series is an opportunity to explore the depth of yoga practice during a six-week series. This series will introduce you to the more subtle benefits of yoga beyond just stretching the hamstrings.

How can this ancient practice make a difference in our busy, stressful, modern lives?

The Deep Dive Series will present a more comprehensive practice of yoga including yoga philosophy, pranayama (breath practice), meditation and mantra. These aspects of yoga are often left out of drop-in yoga classes due to time constraints but that doesn’t mean they aren’t important.

You’ll learn a variety of simple yoga practices to help you manage stress and improve your health, including yoga postures and breath practices to do at home.

Each class will include:

1.   a study of one of the sutras from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, considered a foundational text of classical yoga philosophy

2.   one of the many breath practices that are prescriptive and can make a big difference in your health

3.   simple, accessible asana (yoga postures) designed for daily practice

4.   a restorative pose for deep relaxation, to turn off the stress response

5.   guided meditation to calm your mind and help manage your anxiety

All yoga levels are welcome. No experience is necessary. Modifications will be offered as needed.

In addition, we will focus on these weekly themes:

Week 1: Intro to the 8 Limbs of Yoga- there is more to yoga than stretching!

Week 2: Exploring the Yamas, the core ethical principles of yoga, and why they matter today.

Week 3: Learning to apply the Niyamas, the internal guidelines of yoga that support a balanced life.

Week 4: Harnessing the benefits of Asana (postures) and Pranayama (breath practice) to keep your body healthy and improve the quality of your sleep.

Week 5: Using Pratyahara (turning inward) and Dharana (concentration) to ease into meditation.

Week 6: Practicing Dhyana (meditation) to create more happiness, increase inner peace, lower stress, increase mental clarity, and manage emotional challenges like anxiety, depression and anger.
