1. What is yoga?
Unlike traditional exercise, yoga is a whole being workout that brings balance to your body, mind, and heart. You will develop strength and flexibility to create an overall feeling of health, vitality, and joy. Some of the many health benefits to developing an ongoing yoga practice are brightened awareness, reduced stress, weight management, a relaxed body and nervous system, better sleep, physical agility and confidence, and much more. However imbalanced you may feel in life, yoga can bring you back to your center.
2. What is flow or vinyasa yoga?
One of the most important aspects of a yoga practice is connecting with the breath and learning how to move with it. Very simply put, vinyasa or flow yoga links your breath with your movement. At Source Yoga, in particular, flow yoga is a sequence of movements referred to as Sun Salutation. There are variations of postures within this series that create heat and stimulate the entire body. Depending on the instructor and class level, there will be variations within this style.
3. How is flow yoga different from hot yoga and other styles?
Both styles offer wonderful health benefits and both are considered a form of hatha yoga, a physical practice of mindful exercise. While hot yoga is done in a heated room of 90 degrees+, vinyasa yoga produces heat naturally from within the body. Both styles of yoga offer excellent benefits including improved strength, flexibility, weight management, and relaxation techniques to list a few.
4. What styles of yoga do you offer at Source?
Our studios offer hatha yoga classes for varying levels of practice. We have classes made especially for beginners all the way up to advanced classes for students that have been practicing for decades. Each exceptionally-trained teacher has their own unique way to guide students and they will provide you with the tools to practice safely in a non-competitive space.
5. If I am a beginner, do I have to take the Intro Series?
As a beginner, we highly recommend the Intro Series. This is the best way to get the foundation of proper alignment, body mechanics, breathing techniques, and overall confidence through the expert guidance of our instructors. We offer monthly FREE INTRO. SESSIONS to provide you a feel for the series, answer questions, and help you register. Please view our schedule of events for the dates. You may also prefer a one-on-one session to get started and we offer private sessions with our instructors.
6. Am I allowed to observe a class before I enroll in a class?
For the privacy of other students we do not allow others to observe. The best way to experience a class is to attend a class. Or if you have concerns with being in a group class, we offer exceptional private sessions with our instructors.
7. Do I have to register online before I take a class?
Yes, our on-line system is user friendly and we encourage you to check it out and register for our regularly scheduled weekly classes in advance. For all of our series classes, workshops, and retreats we ask that you also pre-register online, in person, or over the phone. (Series classes span several weeks, including Intro to Yoga, Intro to Meditation, etc.)
8. Do I have to bring my own yoga mat?
We supply all the props at the studio FREE of charge, though most students eventually purchase their own yoga mats. We sell Manduka mats at both studios.
9. Do you take credit cards?
We accept cash, check, Visa and Mastercard.
10.If I purchase my classes or membership at one studio (Tacoma or University Place), is it only valid at that studio?
Class and membership purchases are valid for both studios in Tacoma and University Place.
“I love going to Source Yoga classes, UP studio! I have become a ‘regular yogi’ by attending classes 3-4 times a week. Also, I have formed new friendships
with instructors and members in a very welcoming community!”
